How does Improv class enhance an actor's tool box and foster life skills:

  • CREATIVE SOLUTIONS: Improv encourages actors to quickly come up with creative solutions in any given moment which fosters depth of variety of responses and spontaneity to acting.
  • LISTENING SKILLS: Active listening in order to make deeper, connected, quick responses vital to acting fosters listening skills and enhances actors' ability to be attune to scene partner's character's motivations and helps to enhance more authentic responses,  build connections and enhances overall storytelling and performance.
  • ADAPTABILITY: Improv teaches actors to respond quickly and to be flexible and adaptable which creates depth of storytelling and teamwork on stage.
  • COMFORT WITH VULNERABILITY: Improv and Acting classes help actors become more comfortable with putting themselves in what could be considered awkward or vulnerable situations and putting themselves out there.
  • EMOTIONAL RANGE: Improv and Acting exercises encourage exploring a wide range of emotions and diving deeper into understanding what motivates a character to think/respond/react/feel a particular way. Understanding and embracing the depth of emotional knowledge helps the actor to expand their emotional palette and be more capable of engaging and portrayi9ng characters more fully.
  • TAKING OUT THE "I" IN ACTING: Improv and Acting encourages scene partners to support one another and to work together like a team.
  • PHYSICALITY: The physical actions and movements during Improv can foster awareness of body language and gestures- adding depth to the actor's acting and storytelling.
  • CHEMISTRY: It is vital for actors to develop connections and chemistry with fellow actors on stage. Group acting and chemistry translates to improved storytelling and a more engaging performance.
  • PROBLEM SOLVING: Improv and Acting exercises often involve being thoughtful and creative in solving creative challenges enhancing an actor’s problem-solving skill set.
